Blackbuck National Park
Grasslands of the graceful antelope in coastal Gujarat.Blackbuck National Park at Velavadar spreads across open grasslands and saline plains near the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujarat. It is one of the finest places in India to watch blackbuck antelope sprinting across the grass, and it shelters the endangered Indian wolf, striped hyena, jackal, and one of the largest harrier roosts in the world. In winter the golden grassland comes alive with birds of prey and migratory waterfowl, making it a rewarding destination for wildlife photographers and grassland enthusiasts.
Best Time to Visit
November to March is the best season, when the grassland is golden, harriers roost in large numbers, and the weather is cool and pleasant for open safaris.
Zones
The park is compact and explored as a single grassland zone by jeep, covering the open plains, saline flats, and the harrier roosting areas near the wetlands.
How to Reach
The nearest airport is Ahmedabad (about 160 km) and the nearest railhead is Bhavnagar (about 60 km). Velavadar is reached by road from Ahmedabad or Bhavnagar in roughly two to three hours.
