Jawai is not a fenced national park but a striking open landscape in Rajasthan’s Pali district, gathered around the Jawai Bandh dam. Ancient granite koppies, caves and temples shelter a remarkable population of leopards that live alongside the Rabari herding community in rare human–wildlife harmony, while the dam draws crocodiles and migratory birds.
Jawai is open year-round, but October to March, with its cool, clear weather, is the best time for leopard sightings. Summer can also be rewarding as animals move towards water.
There are no formal numbered zones; safaris range across the open granite hills and around the dam, where the leopards den among the rocky outcrops.
Udaipur airport is about 150 km away and Jodhpur around 155 km. The nearest railheads are Mori Bera, some 4 km off, and Falna, with a road transfer onward.
New shared safaris coming soon.
The Indian leopard is the star, alongside striped hyena, jackal, chinkara and sloth bear, with marsh crocodiles at the dam and seasonal flamingos and cranes.
Open-jeep safaris run morning and evening across private and community land, offering a more exclusive, low-density experience.
