Jim Corbett National Park

The Jim Corbett National Park is a part of the largest Corbett Tiger Reserve; the Project Tiger lies in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The Majestic landscape of Corbett is well-known for its tiger richness. Established in the year 1936 as Hailey National Park, Corbett has the glory of being India’s oldest and most prestigious National Park. It is also being honoured as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in the year 1973. This Unique tiger territory is best known as the father who gave birth to Project Tiger in India to safeguard the most endangered species and the Royal wild animal of India called Tigers.

The Tourist Zones - To promote tourism in this region, the Corbett National Park has been divided into six major different tourism zones. These are the manifested core or buffer areas of the park where visitors can be a part of the wildlife safari and can relish the tempting behaviour of the animals with their bare eyes in the vicinity.
Dhikala Zone : Being the largest and the most diversified jungle safari zone in Corbett, Dhikala is famous for its bountiful natural beauty as well as for offering the best sight for its exotic fauna. The Entry gate is 18 km away from Ramnagar city. Night stay inside the Dhikala Tourism Zone is highly recommended for the hardcore wildlife enthusiasts.
Bijrani Safari Zone : Bijrani Zone is a very popular tourist hub because of its bountiful natural beauty and open grasslands. The entry gate of the zone is located at only 1 Km from Ramnagar city.
Jhirna Safari Zone : Jhirna is another important tourist zone in the Jim Corbett National park which is open for tourists round the year. Jhirna Gate is located at a distance of 16 km from Ramnagar city.
Dhela Safari Zone : Dhela is a new eco-tourism zone in the Corbett National Park which was included in the tiger reserve zone in November 2014. This is the only area in the reserve's buffer zone open for tourists in CTR. The Zone is retaining the attention of a large number of tourists because of its rich biodiversity and is open throughout the year. Also, it is located at an approximate distance of 13 Km from Ramnagar City.
Durga Devi Zone : Located at the north eastern boundary of the Jim Corbett National Park, Durga Devi zone is the heaven on planet earth for those who are fond of bird watching. The Entry gate is located at an approximate distance of 36 km from Ramnagar city.
Sitabani Buffer Zone : Sitabani Zone doesn't fall under the Corbett Tiger Reserve area. But, if you are fond of the serene ambiance of the natural beauty, you must visit the Sitabani area.

How to Reach Corbett - Ramnagar is perhaps the nearest to approach the Corbett National Park which configures the headquarters of CTR. This small city is well connected by the rail and road networks with the major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, Nainital, and Bareilly. Once you reach Ramnagar, then it takes only half an hour to reach Corbett National Park. The Park is around 15 km from Ramnagar railway station.
By Road : Ramnagar has a very good network of roads that connects the different cities. The Corbett National Park is situated at an approximate surface distance of 260 Kilometres from India's national capital, Delhi. The state government of Uttarakhand plies buses at a short interval of time from Delhi, Moradabad, Haldwani, and Nainital which reaches Corbett directly.
By Rail : The Railway station in Ramnagar receives trains from different major cities of India like Delhi, Moradabad, and Bareilly. Also, the Direct train to Ramnagar runs from Delhi. You can go through the various trains arriving, namely, Ranikhet Express, Corbett Link Express, and Kathgodam Express which will take you directly to Ramnagar.

History of Jim Corbett

Jim corbett park named as Haley National Park when founded way back in 1936. Willliam Malcom Hailey was the governor of the united province the and it was after him that it was named as Hailey National Park. In the decade of the 50s, it was known as Ramganga. Later the name was changed to Jim Corbett who was a British writer and sportsperson.

Jim Corbett is also one of the oldest tiger reserves in the country. It has been ever expanding and in 1991, a buffer zone was added and post that, it became one of the largest wild life sanctuaries in India. Animal killing is strictly prohibited here since 1930s as not just the tigers, but tourists are not even allowed to hunt down birds, reptiles, or any mammals for that matter.

How to Reach

There are many ways to travel to Jim Corbett as all the means of reaching there have been discussed below:.

By Road – The way to Jim Corbett by road from Delhi is via Noida, Kashipur, and then finally Ramnagar. It takes 7-8 hours from Delhi to reach Corbett national park from Delhi via road.

By Train – Ramnagar is the closest railway station and is well connected to some of the major places like Delhi, Varanasi, Haridwar, and Lucknow. However, people travelling from other parts of India, will have to first come to Delhi and then take a connecting train to Ramnagar.

By Bus – Again Ramnagar is the popular destination as buses from places like Delhi, Haridwar, Dehradun and other places. One can take a bus to Ramnagar and from there it’s quite easy to reach the camping site of Corbett National Park.

By Air – This in a way is not an idea way to get here. However, there’s a daily flight fron Delhi to Pantnagar and from there the approx distance to Jim Corbett National Park is 80 odd kilometres. One can take a cab and reach there in around two hours.
